Ian Mackinnon is joint founder and Creative Director of Mackinnon and Saunders, the world-renowned leaders in character development for animation and producers of high-quality stop motion and 2D digital animation. Ian has worked closely with creators, directors and designers on the look and interpretation of the stop motion puppet designs for Mars Attacks!, Corpse Bride, Frankenweenie and most recently Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Other films include Guillermo del Toro’s Oscar winning Pinocchio and Wes Anderson’s Fantastic Mr. Fox. Alongside his co-founder, Ian Mackinnon and Peter Saunders have worked together in the world of stop motion for almost 40 years. The Mackinnon & Saunders workshop is the birthplace of an astonishing range of puppet characters for feature films, TV series, commercials and short films. Mackinnon & Saunders studios have also produced the animation for countless TV series, short films and advertising commercials, including Postman Pat, Twirlywoos, Moon & Me, Raa Raa the Noisy Lion and most recently, Netflix’s other-worldly stop motion anthology, The House.
