Iva Pezuashvili is a Georgian writer and screenwriter, born in 1990. He studied film at the Shota Rustaveli Theatre and Film University. In 2018, he was awarded a fellowship to participate in the International Writing Program at the University of Iowa.

Pezuashvili has been publishing fiction since 2012. His first short-story collection, I Tried, appeared in 2014. His story Tsa was included in several international anthologies, including The Book of Tbilisi and Georgien – Eine literarische Einladung.

His debut novel, Gospel of the Underground, was published in 2018 and shortlisted for several major Georgian literary awards. His second novel, The Garbage Chute, received the European Union Prize for Literature, as well as two of Georgia’s major literary honors, the Tsinandali Award and the SABA Literary Award. The novel has since been translated and published in several European countries and Canada.

His third novel, Mascarafone, was published in 2022 and won the 2023 SABA Literary Award for Best Novel. His work has been translated into multiple languages and published internationally.

Pezuashvili’s most recent novel, For Edelweisses, continues his exploration of contemporary Georgian society, memory, identity, and the relationship between the individual and their country.
