Justyna Mielnikiewicz is an award winning photographer from Poland, based in Tbilisi, Georgia for over a decade. She worked with various international publications: Newsweek, Le Monde, Stern, The New York Times, National Geographic and most recently the Wall Street Journal. She is a winner of World Press Photo, Aftermath Project Grant, Eugene Smith Memorial Fund in 2016, Canon Female Photojournalist Prize or Caucasus Young Photographer Award by Magnum Foundation - among others. For her work in Ukraine done for WSJ in 2022 awarded by Overseas Press Club of America The Olivier Rebbot Award - for best photographic news reporting from abroad published in any medium.
The most important part of her work is devoted to personal, long term projects published as books. In 2014 her first book was released “ Woman with a Monkey - Caucasus in Short Notes and Photographs“. In 2019 the author's second book: “Ukraine Runs Through it “ was shortlisted among 20 best books by Paris Photo and Aperture. The most recent book project devoted to women both in the Soviet Union and independent countries after it fell, titled: GOGO - was published in February 2022. Contributor to "Relentless Courage: Ukraine and the World at War", a book documenting the Ukraine war, published in 2022 in the USA.
She teaches photography workshops and specializes in: different aspects of transformations and current geo-political dynamics in countries of Central Europe, in particular Caucasus and Ukraine.
